Current Work in Progress
video still 2009 Working title: Portrait of an Unknown Woman
New video work exploring the submerged image and Renaissance painting. Katherine Shirley poses as a painter's model in the style of the Mona Lisa, but a succession of subtle facial expressions conveys emotional depths beyond the painted canvas.
I am currently developing new work involving small acting roles. These performances will be combined with my video style of using enigmatic scenes and imagery that references painting. If you would like to get involved please read on below. (All these positions are unpaid, though expenses will be met where reasonable)
All participants will be credited on the video or film. The finished work will be screened at Film & video festivals and presented in gallery spaces. They will also be posted on this site.
Call for Volunteer Actors & Crew
Restaurant Piece
The scene takes place in a restaurant. It shows a couple dining out but there is no food anywhere on the table. They appear to be dining but there is no food on the plates and no drink in the glasses. It is as if the food had been removed from the film afterwards. The finished scene should last fifteen to twenty minutes.
Actors parts: 2 Actors wanted, male and female, to play a couple dining in a restaurant. You dine but there is no food. You have plates, knives and forks and you mime eating and pretend there is food, asking each other how it is.
I require the following cast and crew:
1 male actor aged 20 - 35 for diner
1 female actor aged 20 - 35 for diner
1 male actor aged 20 - 35 for waiter
1 camera assistant
1 lighting assistant
1 sound assistant
These positions are unpaid, but expenses will be paid. You get a copy of the video, credits on the final video plus some drinks in the pub afterward. You need to be able to easily travel to Sheffield as expenses are limited.
If you want to get involved please leave your contact details below.

I want to film a scene in a restaurant or cafe. The scene involves a couple (played by actors) dining out, but without any food. They will need a table, plates, cutlery, and a bit of space. The scene will be short but will require a minimum of two and maximum of four hours for the shooting. I am looking for a suitable location. Restaurant would be credited on the video.

Videoed performance piece
I will be making a performance in Sheffield City centre and am looking
for a large number of extras to simulate a crowd. Extras will be required
to pretend going about their daily business and shopping while I perform
a sequence in slow motion. The video will be about the contrast between
my slow motion movements and the ordinary speed of the crowd. None of the
crowd must take any notice of me which is why I require extras. I plan to
shoot this early on a Sunday morning (date to be released pending responses
to this advert). Since these positions are unpaid all extras will be credited
on the video (unless they wish not to be).
